Grenland Friteater will have to cancel PIT 2020

Since the Corona virus put Norwegian culture into quarantine, Grenland Friteater already had to cancel a high number of events. And unfortunately, the list of cancellations in the future is even longer. Currently, the theater staff, like so many others, are working from home, preparing for what we hope will happen this fall.

Unfortunately, we realize that it will not be possible to arrange Porsgrunn International Theater Festival (PIT) this year. The health authorities’ forecasts indicate that the restrictions may last a long time, and if the spread of infection is to be kept at a low level, it will not be possible, let alone justifiable, to make large events in June.

The same applies to Grenland Friteater’s own production Herøya 1943, which was to have its premiere during PIT. When the ban on cultural events was introduced, we had already sold more than 90% of the tickets to the 8 performances. However, with a scheduled rehearsal start in early May and a high number of participants in the performance, we cannot gather the ensemble for rehearsals.

But we can only shake off our disappointment and look forward to an even bigger and better PIT and an even better prepared Herøya 1943 in 2021. Performance dates will be posted on our websites in the next few days. Those who have purchased Herøya 1943 tickets online will receive an email about a change of date or refund in the near future. If you have purchased a ticket manually you must contact the ticket office when it opens.
